In general, "five-star" properties have to have a beach location, multiple restaurants-bars and a swimming pool.  Four star properties have lesser amounts-varieties of facilities while three-star have just the basics.

Since most visitors go once in a lifetime to Rio, splurging on accommodations with a view is recommended. This is particularly true if you are staying on Copacabana Beach a stunningly beautiful long arc-shaped beach. So even if you are in a three or four star property, splurge and pay for guaranteed oceanfront accommodations.
