ABOUT HOTEL PORTILLO

Portillo is located 90 miles to the northeast of Santiago, in the heart of the Andes, on the Uspallata Pass only six kilometers from the border with Argentina. The drive takes only about 2 hours. It is nestled at an altitude of 8,670 feet near the base of Mountain Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere, and next to legendary Inca Lake. Its slopes tumble down from massive shoulders of mountains over 15,000 feet high.

Lounge

 The hotel, originally constructed in 1949 but well maintained over the years, is comprised of an arc-shaped main hotel building, two annexes and eight chalets with a total capacity of 482 beds.

 The main hotel building's accommodations are:

5 suites located on the 2nd and 6th floors on the lake side
103 twins with either valley or lake view:
      all twins on the 6th floor are deluxe & have only lake view
18 singles, all located on floors 3 through 5, all with valley view
9 family apartments, each with one double and one room with two bunks,
      connected by one private bath

 

The "Octagon" is a short walk from the main building and has a total of 16 bunks in rooms for four persons, each with private bath. The "Inca Lodge" has a total of 25 bunks in rooms for 4 persons but instead of private baths, there is a community bath for men and one for women. These accommodations are only for persons up to the age of 21 years. Meals are taken only in the self service restaurant.

There are also seven chalets. Four have six beds; two have eight beds and there is one chalet for only two persons.
