ABOUT SKIING PORTILLO

SKI AREA:
The ski area is located at 9405 feet above sea level, 100% above the tree line. Terrain is rated 24% easiest, 33% advanced and 43% difficult or very difficult. While most are easy and advanced terrain is groomed on a daily basis, difficult and most difficult terrain is generally natural snowpack. Skiers are served by 12 lifts, including 1 Quad, 1 Triple, 2 Double and 8 surface lifts - maximum lifted vertical drop is 750 meters; longest slope is 2,600 meters.

SKI SEASON:
Generally between June 15 and September 30th. Before and after the season, the lifts operate as soon and as long as there is snow but the main hotel is not opened. Temperatures in Portillo vary from 32 degrees Fahrenheit in the day to -4 degrees Fahrenheit at night. During times of stable weather temperatures vary from 59 degrees Fahrenheit in the day to 14 degrees at night. Humidity is low and the snow is dry.

CHARACTERISTICS OF SOME SLOPES:
JUNCALILLO is a slope for intermediate skiers with a variety of rolling terrain
PLATEAU is everybody's favorite slope - the terrain is ideal for advanced intermediates and expert skiers and leads to a great variety of off piste skiing
ROCA JACK is a wide steep slope served by an unusual lift designed by Jean Pomagalsky specifically for Portillo and is known as Va et Vient. This slope is for experts only and provides some of the finest powder skiing in the world.
F.I.S. DOWNHILL starts from 50 meters above the arrival platform of the Roca Jack ski lift and comes down through Juncalillo passing over the tunnels of the International Road and finishes before the Juncalillo chair lift. The piste is 2,660 meters long with a vertical drop of 803 meters.
KILOMETRO LANZADO slope is considered on of the fastest speed courses in the world. Its total length is 1,034 meters with the length used for 217 k/h of 526 meters; the total vertical drop of 526 meters with the drop for 217 k/h being 426 meters.
