ABOUT  POUSADA TRIJUNCAO ACTIVITIES

Discover Cerrado – the Brazilian savannah
Located in the heart of South America, the Cerrado is considered the richest savannah in the World in terms of biodiversity, and is home to more than 13,000 species of plants (about 5% of all plant species in the World) in an area equivalent to the territories Spain, France, Germany, Italy and England – combined!

Just like its flora, the fauna is also exuberant. In addition to an astounding diversity of insects and other invertebrates, it is made up of more than 850 species of birds, 251 of mammals, 482 of reptiles and amphibians and 1,200 of fish. Among its most emblematic animals are frog-arrow-frog, dwarf caiman, maned deer, maned wolf, anteater, emu and field-shrew.

One of the main mission of Fazenda Trijunção is to help the conservation of Cerrado, starting with the protection of native vegetation in almost all of its total area of 33,000 hectares. We believe that by sharing this experience with the guests of Pousada Trijunção, we are supporting the rediscovery of the Cerrado and stimulating its conservation.

Maned Wolf
In the Cerrado, there are approximately 150 species of animals threatened with extinction, mainly due to the destruction of their habitat. Among them, the maned wolf stands out as the largest canidae native to South America and one of the most fantastic and emblematic animals of this biome.

Our guests can follow closely the research project, developed in partnership with the Associação Onçafari, which promotes the conservation of the environment and contributes to the socioeconomic development of the regions in which it is inserted through ecotourism and scientific studies.

The maned wolf project gives our guests the opportunity to see up-close this charismatic strut with the gold-red and the peculiar way of walking, considered the animal symbol of the Cerrado.

Birding

Birdwatching or birding is a hobby that consists of the search and identification of different species of birds in their natural habitats.

More than 210 species of birds have been catalogued in Fazenda Trijunção, among them many notable species for their rarity, beauty and particular behaviours.

To be able to observe them in free life accompanied by an expert guide is an opportunity to connect uniquely with Nature.

Stargazing

The isolated location of Fazenda Trijuncão, away from the light pollution of big cities, makes our Pousada a privileged place to observe stars, constellations, planets and other celestial elements on its infinity.

Enjoy and be dazzled by the immensity of the night sky, as large and diverse as the Cerrado itself.

Night search for the dwarf caiman

Guided by our staff after our beautiful sunset, guests take a night kayak or boat ride on Lagoa das Araras, as they search for the dwarf caiman – the World’s smallest species.

Eco-Safari at night

Many animals are most active in the late afternoon and early evening when they find protection in darkness and greater thermal comfort. It is at this moment that our guests, accompanied by our specialized guides, have the opportunity to board our specially adapted safari truck and explore Fazenda Trijunção roads that meander through the vastness of the Cerrado.

Under the mantle of the night, powerful lanterns make the animals’ eyes shine, increasing the chance of locating them in the darkness. In addition to different species of nocturnal birds, including urutau, bacuraus and owls; mammals such as maned wolf, field fox, skunks, armadillos, anteaters, tapir and even – if luck – pecan and jaguar are among the animals that can cross our path.

Kayak ride on Formoso River

A kayak ride through the lagoon where Formoso River springs from is an unique opportunity to take advantage of the tranquility of the Cerrado, its beauty and surrounding wildlife.

Guided Bike Tours (3km-5km-10km)

The flat formation and relief of the Cerrado is perfect for bike rides.

Using equipment suitable for the terrain, and provided by us, our guests can explore the Cerrado – on ever-expanding tracks – including a drive to the border between 3 different States and Regions in Brazil – the landmark that names both Fazenda and Pousada Trijunção (“tri-junction”).

Visit to the tortoise nursery

In this attraction for children of all ages, our guests can take guided tours to our tortoise nursery, where they get to know the various phases of its growth.

Visit to the conservationist breeding ground

Most of the initiatives of Pousada Trijunção are related to our conservationist breeding practice.

Guided by our specialists, guests can visit and safely know the project of conservation of emus, peccary, and other wild animals and see them closely!

Visit to the National Park Grande Sertão Veredas

Walk through the National Park Grande Sertão Veredas, that inspired Brazilian famous novelist Guimarães Rosa and presented the Brazilian literature with some of its most beautiful novels.

Reconnect with the exuberant simplicity of Nature that is so central to true Brazil.
