ITINERARY (Subject to change without notice):
Saturday - USA - San Salvador Afternoon flight south to San Salvador, capital of El Salvador. Meeting and transfer to the Hotel Hilton Princess.
Sunday - San Salvador Today you will have a excursion in the lush picturesque countryside to Lake Coatepeque. You will ascend 2000 meters above sea level to Cerro Verde for a spectacular view of the lake, sea and Izalco Volcano. Lunch included en route; balance of day at leisure. (B/L)
Monday - San Salvador Full day visit to the newly discovered (and currently under excavation) Joya de Ceren, a Maya village dating back to 1400 B.C. that was covered by volcanic ash and is the only Maya site found to date that reflects "village" daily life. Continue to Santa Ana for a visit to the San Andres ruins, once a Maya religious settlement. Lunch included today. (B/L)
Tuesday - San Salvador - Managua Morning transfer to the airport for your short flight to Managua, capital of Nicaragua. Upon arrival, meeting and transfer to the Hotel Real Inter-Continental MetroCentro.This afternoon your guide will show you the highlights of the capital hugging the shores of Lake Managua. Most of the downtown area was destroyed in the earthquake of 1972, the National Palace was restored as was the Ruben Dario Theater The "new city" is a sprawling complexes of businesses, banks, fountains, offices and roads. (B)
Wednesday - Managua Full day visit to the area northwest of Managua for a guided tour of one of the country's oldest cities, Leon. This was a provincial center during the Spanish colonial era and you'll visit the Spanish cathedral, Subtiava Church and the home of the famed poet Ruben Dario. You will also visit the San Jacinto volcanic pools. Lunch included in Leon. (B/(L)
Thursday - Managua Another full day excursion; first, visit the impressive Masaya Volcano where you can stand right on the edge of the active crater. Then continue to the town of Masaya and its famed arts and crafts market , of special note are the hammocks and wood cravings. On to the colonial capital of Granada on the shores of Lake Nicaragua. Founded in 1524, you will see many churches and convents that still preserve the historic legacy. Lunch included in Granada prior to a boat ride through some of the 365 "isletas" on Lake Nicaragua. (B/L)
Friday - Managua - USA Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the USA where you clear immigrations and customs and make connections to your home city. (B)
