Located near Tres Arboles in the
department of Paysandu to the north and west of Montevideo, La Calera is an estancia
turned "hosteria". The last hour's drive on the gravel roads through the pastoral countryside gives a true impression of life in the country. Built in 1887, the estancia covers 9,000 hectares.

The main hall is comprised of a bar,
multiple seating areas around multiple fireplaces and a dining area. Meals are served buffet style with meats cooked traditional style over hot wood coals.

There are 40 guest rooms located primarily around a grassy "courtyard" area. Each room is decorated in country style and has a private bathroom with ample hot water. Activities include excursions on horseback or in horse-drawn carriages to explore the flora and fauna of the estancia and to witness the estancia activities. There is also a swimming pool.
