ABOUT RANCHO DE CALDERA - in their own words:

Rancho de Caldera is completely off the grid, yet offers amenities such as free wireless Internet, satellite TV, iPod docking station and air conditioning. All rooms have a 20-foot wall of glass facing the pristine mountains to the east, allowing for some spectacular sunrises from the comfort of bed. All rooms have a very large 24’ x 12’ covered deck. The bathrooms are large and spacious with unlimited hot water and strong water pressure.

This boutique hotel is truly an eco-resort. We provide our power with a combination of solar panels, hydroelectric generators and wind power. We are growing jatrophia plants to produce our own biodiesel fuel, to provide power to our diesel vehicles and our backup generator. On approximately 50 acres, we have cows and horses, and will soon have goats and chickens. We are building an eco-greenhouse with locally grown bamboo to provide vegetables and herbs to our restaurant. Finally, we have planted many different fruit trees (oranges, limes, avocados, bananas, lychees, mangos, papayas and other local fruits), some of which are already beginning to produce fruit.

Rancho de Caldera offers guests both privacy and the opportunity to meet and mingle with other guests and the owners, who live on site. Most of the staff has had some English lessons, and welcomes the opportunity to practice English with guests. And staff always appreciates guests who practice their Spanish.

Once here, you can enjoy our wonderful restaurant, go horseback riding, relax at the pool, hike on the trail to our 5 waterfalls or take a tour of our alternative energy facilities.
