While getting there is part of the experience, once there you have a variety of activities you can arrange. Depending on your length of stay, you'll only have one or two days at Puyuhuapi, and there's plenty to keep you busy.

Excursions available from the hotel: 

CATCH OF THE DAY
Come and join a local fisherman as he performs his duties. Pesca con espinel (fishing line with hool). Fishing with "espinel" is one of the techniques use around the southern channel for catching hake, congrio eel and other fish that make their habitat the interior seas of Patagonia. This technique uses a fishing line to which about fifty hooks have been tied. Mussels are used as bait. Whether at the break of dawn or at dusk we board a boat, with all the fishing apparels After searching for and finding the right place we drop the line and hope for the best... catching some fish.

Normally the fisherman will drop the fishing line in the morning and will come back in the afternoon to pick it up, and you can be part of his job and enjoy a special adventure as you experience his work... feel like a real fisherman.

A TASTE OF CHILE IN PINIQUE ISLAND
Just a few meters across Termas de Puyuhuapi Hotel, crossing Dorita Bay, Pinique Island is located. We invite our guest to visit the island where they will find a taste of Chile... Take a kayak, canoe, or one of our zodiac boats to reach the island. A guide nature will accompany you in this adventure. Pinique island is a wonderful place to enjoy nature, only a few minutes across the Hotel, also a good opportunity to take a panoramic photography of the Hotel. Underneath the protection of native trees enjoy the tranquility of the area, the sound of silence, the peacefulness of an afternoon among friends, the warmth of people. Come sail and join us.Minimum: 6 passengers. Use of life jacket is compulsory.

VISIT TO THE TOWN OF PUYUHUAPI
Puyuhuapi located along the austral road is a fishermen town, establish in 1935 by German immigrants and the help of fishermen coming from Chiloe Island. The town is nested between the Andes Mountains at the end of Puyuhuapi channel. Morning is the best time visit Puyuhuapi. We can reach the town by road after driving for about 25 minutes along Austral Road or we can take a boat and sail for about 20 minutes through Seno Ventisquero. The bay, so quiet invites visitors to walk along its shore and enjoy the peace and relax environment of a town located in the immensity of Patagonia.

After walking through the streets of this small town, a visit to the hand-made rug factory is a must. The factory was establish in 1945 by a German family, the art of knotting was taught to local ladies whom for years have created the most beautiful wool carpets. Hundred percent wool, hundred percent dedication and love made these rugs unique, a sight to the eyes. On weekdays, the factory is opened for visitors, they see how women are devoted to their work, hardworking ladies with amazing dexterity transform pieces of wool in pieces of art.

TREKKING SENDERO SUR - "IN SEARCH OF THE CHUCAO"
A walk to enjoy the beauty of the area surrounding the Termas de Puyuhuapi Hotel & Spa, is what we invite you to do while you stay with us. The trail starts a few meters from the SPA building, ascending through an easy path. From here you can enjoy a splendid view of Dorita Bay. During the trek you can appreciate the deep and dense forest that covers the mountains of the region. We will native trees, ferns, lichens, flowers and plants that grow on top of the rock that was sculpture by the glacier action thousands of years ago. The gradient of the trail is easy to follow and eventually turns into an easy to adventurous descend. As we walk inside the deep forest we will see trees such as the Coigues, Canelos, Tineos, Tepas and many others ones that comprise what is known as the Tempered Rain Forest, or Valdivian Forest.

The walk has been called "In search of the Chucao". Chucao is a Chilean bird that lives in the undegrrowth of the native forest. Its singing is very characteristic, easy to recognize. When we hear it, we know that the Chucao is very close... keep quiet and this very friendly and curious bird will approach the group. Making the encounter a difficult one to forget. Have your cameras ready.... 'Me Chucao with its beautiful colors and gracious form will be part of the trek. Just keep your eyes open and your ears alert. Nature lovers will enjoy the majesty of the landscape and the contact with nature. 'Me company of a guide will make the walk more interesting. Commentaries regarding the flora and fauna of the area will be delivered as you walk.

TRAIL LAGUNA TEMPANOS
A trip for everybody. An easy, flat and mellow path. Accessable for all ages and physical conditions, that will bring you the possibility of enjoying the vast views of the valleys shaped by the action of glaciers that covered this sector. After walking for less than a kilometer along Ventisquero river, we reach the beautiful and peaceful Laguna Los Tempanos. Form the edge of the lagoon and amazing view of the Hanging glacier can be obtain, if we are lucky we will experience the thundering sound that ice produces when falling down, the glacier slowly but constantly advances toward the edge of the mountain that nest it. A breathtaking view. The deep green of the native forest, the lush and beauty of the surroundings, the different flowers that covered the soil in spring, such as wild orchids and the unbelievably gigantic nalcas in summer, will accompany you as you walk.

A guide specialized in native flora and fauna will trek with you, helping you to enjoy the area as he/she gives commentaries along the way.

SPECIAL EXCURSIONS - Available at extra cost:

LOS PUMAS LAGOON TRAIL
Beginning in the northern area of the 154.000 hectare Queulat (Distant Lands) National Park, this 7-kilometer extension trail abruptly climbs through the native forest to reach Los Pumas Lagoon. The clear and graduated trail provides beautiful views of Lake Risopatron and the cold forest and then leads on through the transition and high reaches a wide plateau with a spectacular panoramic view of the mountain ridge that protects the narrow Ventisquero Sound in the fjords of the Chilean Patagonia. A spring-fed creek gently winds its way through, making this the perfect nesting place for birds of the area. Land mammals roam the plane. Contrasting shades of yellow, ochre and red saturate the forest in the autumn. After crossing through the pass that borders the plateau, the trail drops gently to the eastern sector of the Los Pumas lagoon to a beautiful beach for a swim and picnic lunch. With a basin of approximately 70 hectares and a clear water, both pure and well-oxygenated, is the source of life for a wide variety of aquatic species. White peaks just up in the west, embellishing the scenic view of this remote and unexplored destination.

HANGING GLACIER VISTA POINT TRAIL
The Ventisquero River runs the length of the glacier moraine valley that was carved out by the Ventisquero Colgante (Hanging Glacier) and others that form part of the Nevados del Queulat (Peaks of Queulat). Walking just a short distance from the parking lot and over the hanging bridge that crosses the river, we find the entrance of the forest trail that encircles the valley created by the moraine.

Along the way we see the lagoon from high above and behold beautiful panoramas of the lush evergreen forest on the northeastern side of the trail. Although a bit steep at the beginning, the trail is clear an is easily accessible. And just over three kilometers through the cold forest, we come to a vista point with a view of the Ventisquero Colgante and its waterfalls that plummet more than 150 meters. Giant blocks of ice frequently break loose from the glacier and hurtle down the rocks with a deafening roar as they plunge into the Los Tempanos Lagoon below.

ENCHANTED FOREST TRAIL
The true spirit of this excursion lies in the extensive, towering snow-capped peaks of the Queulat National Park and the lush vegetation of its lower valleys. 'Me lofty peaks and majestic glaciers come into view along the southern slopes of the park. The hike begins just beyond the Portezuelo del Queulat (Queulat  Pass) where the luxuriant forest arches over the clear trail and lichen gently drapes down form ancient trees as if inspired by the pages of Hans Cristian Andersen. An abundance of Fungi, moss, algae, ferns and flowers intertwine with and add color to the fallen leaves beneath our feet. The leisurely path slopes slightly and runs nearly 2 kilometers to the Cascadas River. The climb continues along the edge of the river and through the valley, which opens up to offer a spectacular panoramic view of the area. We soon reach the source of the river, a lagoon whose banks are contained by the looming, craggy wall of granite that provides a base for the glacier that originates in one of Queulat's many snow covered peaks. Tracks of time are etched out on the rock, and its traces are clearly visible as the giant mass recedes. Sparkling shades of blue, lavender and ping emanate from the massive block of ice, and great chunks frequently break off and tumble into the deep turquoise waters below. The forest and high altitude flora rise up from below. The wind blows gently, and you an almost touch the ice. This landscape and its scenic views are truly awe-inspiring.

FJORDS AND DOLPHINS
Cai-Cai and Tentenvilu - mythological serpents - once wove their way through the relentless Patagonian mountains and fjords the same ones we reach today in fast boats that travel the length and width of the calm sa. We are accompanied along the way by playful dolphins and a wide variety of other sea mammals - even killer whales, if we are lucky. Joy and happiness! We are in dolphin territory! Both docile and mischievous, they love to splash us as they play and dive near the bow of our boat. Do not forget your camera - this is a great photographic opportunity. And there are countless other species to enjoy too. We sometimes see sea lions just meters away as well as a Black-Browed and Wandering albatross. Nature always has some pleasant surprise in store for us as we wind our way through islands, islets, and fjords This is the true Chilean Patagonia, land of dolphins, Cai-Cai and Tentenvilu.
