ABOUT EMBIARA LODGE - in their own words:

Embiara Eco Lodge - The most private adventurous experience of all Pantanal lodges

We are a family-run, boutique safari lodge situated in the beautiful southern region of the Pantanal in Brazil.  Here you can still experience the preserved eco-system of the Pantanal with its unique wetlands.

Come join us at this most inimate of Pantanal eco-lodges, so that you can discover with us all of the amazing sights and sounds that this remote wilderness has to offer.

We pride ourselves on the intimate and caring service which we provide to our guests.

We go out of our way to make sure that our guests can experience this wildlife paradise in a variety of ways - whether drifting down the Rio Negro river by boat with one of our silent electric engines, horse-riding across our endless, emerald drainage field, or going on a safari drive adventure in an open-back jeep through forest and around lakes, you are sure to fall in love with the beauty of this ever changing and vibrant landscape, and all of the creatures which it supports. And you will no doubt learn a great deal from our very knowledgeable guides and trackers who will accompany you on each of your excursions.

This region of the Pantanal is a wonderful place for birdwatching and photography. Hyacinth macaws, though endangered, are frequently sighted here. Toco toucans light up the forests with their dazzling beaks. And Jabiru storks, famous symbols of the Pantanal, nest here in the dry season.

Mammals abound here too. Giant otters and neotropical otters cruise through the waters of the Rio Negro river. Tapirs rest cautiously in the shadows of the gallery forest. Giant anteaters amble inquisitively through the fields. Black howler monkeys munch lazily on the leaves of trees around the lodge. Even the shy cats (jaguars, pumas, ocelots and jaguarundis) pay us an occasional visit.

Embiara is also a small fazenda (cattle ranch). This practice is in keeping with the centuries-old, cattle farming traditions of this region, which exist in harmony with the wildlife of the Pantanal.

When you are back at the lodge, you will enjoy the diversity and quality of our traditional Brazilian and international cuisine, and you will look forward to retiring to the sanctity of your accomodation, which we have worked meticulously at making as comfortable, cosy and private as possible.

LOCATION:
(S-019.35.976/W056.06.430) is situated in what  is considered to be the heart of the southern Pantanal region.

Campo Grande (the  Capital  of Mato  Grosso do Sul) is the nearest major  town to  the  Lodge,  and has a domestic airport. Campo Grande can be accessed daily with domestic flights from all major cities in Brazil.

This Pantanal region, situated along the beautiful Rio Negro is known for its diverse wildlife habitats, which include salt and fresh water lakes surrounded by native forests, a pristine river, marshland, flood plains and an abundance of wildlife.

This is where most Pantanal related movies or wildlife documentaries are filmed.

GETTING HERE:

There are three ways of getting to us:

1. Driving to the lodge from Campo Grande takes approximately 5-6 hours in a 4x4 Vehicle (this is only possible in the dry season, between May and November). It is probably my favourite way of travelling to the Lodge, as it gives you an intimate introduction to the Pantanal, viewing animals and scenery as you drive through the farms that lead to us. The drive can take a bit longer as there are always photo opportunities that one does not want to miss. The driver will be awaiting your arrival at the airport, and will drive you back to the airport should you choose this form of transport one way or to return as well.  Personally, I love the drive, as it is a great way to experience the change as you enter the Pantanal.

2. Flying (all year round) in a Cessna Skylane from Campo Grande International airport ("air taxi") to the lodge takes approximately 1 hour. Flying in is also a great way to get to us as you get a good overview of the topography of the region, and it also saves time if that is an important element in your schedule.

NOTE: the maximum luggage weight per person when flying with full passenger capacity is 20kg per person.

3. Fly in and Drive out or vice versa, getting the best of both experiences

ABOUT THE LODGE:
Embiara Lodge is privileged to have some of these flood plains (Vazante do Castelo e do Periquito) run through its property. These magnificent fields are very similar to those of the Okavango delta  in Africa, which attract huge numbers of birds and mammals and makes Embiara Lodge a special place to visit.

Our lodge, unlike other lodges, is nestled in a vibrant forest that borders the Rio Negro, in the heart of the southern Pantanal Region, some 120 km from the nearest town, named Aquidauana, which in turn is some 140 km from Campo Grande.

The main building houses the common areas including the lounge-bar and dining room.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Click here for more details
We like our guests to feel close to nature from the moment they wake up and look out of their windows. Safety, comfort and privacy are three important ingredients we took into consideration when building the three stand-alone accommodation chalets, with a total of 4 rooms.

FACTS & INFO:
We try not to take in more than 8 guests at a time, as we want to provide individual attention to our guests, as well as maintain a sense of  privacy. The low volume of people ensures that our wildlife friends are not stressed, and thus look forward to being seen and photographed.

There is much to see and experience, and considering the remoteness and the transfer to get to our special region, considered to be the  "heart of the Pantanal" we only consider reservations for a minimum stay of three nights.

Included in the daily rate is:

 * all meals and drinks, including mineral water, juices, soft drinks, beer and the acclaimed local  “caipirinha”.
 * All activities and the necessary equipment (binoculars, bamboo fishing rods, goggles, mineral water and other drinks during the guided tours,  etc).
 * A bilingual guide speaking English/German/French/Dutch/Spanish (for a minimum of 2 persons). However, this is not an exclusive, dedicated guide. We can organize exclusive guides at a cost.
 * Internet access at the main lodge building (also WLAN).
 * Special wishes of our guests. If you have any specific food requests, please let us know. We will be happy to meet your needs.
 * Our activities are normally are led by an English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish speaking guide together with local field guides. Since we only receive up to eight guests at a time, we can provide our guests with a very private Pantanal experience.

Through a questionnaire which we send out and ask our guests to fill out in advance, we become familiar with our guests’ activity preferences, and will try to design an activity program that takes into account said preferences and abilities so you can experience our beautiful Pantanal region to the fullest.
