Nicaragua

Geographical:
Nicaragua is located in Central America, between: Honduras (north), Costa Rica (south), Pacific Ocean (west) and Caribbean Sea (East), centered at Latitude 12N and 86W. We have beautiful beaches in the Pacific as well as in the Caribbean side. The blend of Spanish and Indian cultures on an exuberant natural environment has produced the most interesting and colorful country in Central America. Colonial cities, volcanic parks, Indian markets, natural wildlife, sunny beaches, friendly people, and much more for you to see… come and visit this wonderful country!

Climate:
The climate is all year sunny and warm. Rains between May and November. Atlantic region: the rainy season is more intense. Pacific area: rains for a few minutes and stays overcast.

Temperatures:
Range between 64F (18C) and 82F (28C). Some tours experience hot temperatures during noontime. Light clothes and comfortable shoes must be used. For trips to the jungle, or other adventure tours, tennis or jogging shoes are sufficient.

The average person with normal equipment can enjoy our tours. Only some tours like Volcanic Explorer or Maderas Climbing will require better shoes and a good physical condition.

Entry requirements:
For most countries (Canada, USA, Germany) only a Tourist Card (USD 5.00) sold at the airport is required. Spanish citizens do not need visas or Tourists cards. When entering by the borders, an additional USD 2.00 fee per person is charged when entering and exiting the country. A municipal tax of U$1.00 is charged in Sapoa (Costa Rica border) and Guasaule (Honduras Border). Tourists can stay legally for 30 days. Extensions may be requested at a nominal charge.

Taxes:
Airport: USD 25.00 per person. Sales tax is 15%. Airline tickets tax is 6.5%

Currency:
One US dollar is worth 13.90 Córdobas in Noverber 2001, anually there is an inflation rate of aprox. 7%. Money exchange is available in Banks, exchange houses, hotels and street vendors (not recommended). Dollars are readily accepted anywhere except in the countryside. Nicaraguan currency is stable, devaluating at a rate of 1% per month.

Banks:
Six private Banks. Open 8:30, close 5:30 p.m. Visa, MasterCard accepted almost everywhere. American Express in some locations only, basically hotels. Travelers Checks are accepted.
