ABOUT PARQUE NATURAL IXPANPAJUL - in their own words:

Parque Natural Ixpanpajul is a splendid forest, the natural shelter of a wide variety of plants, trees and animals that have decided to stay in this place, the cradle of the Mayan culture.

A Group of Guatemalans runs the park.  They are involved in Natural Sciences and environment and possess a deep respect for life in all its manifestations.  They also consider a paramount duty to work arduously in the conservation of the forest, giving this a reasonable use.  The group also looks for diverse recreation alternatives to achieve an interrelation of coexistence and balance between visitor and nature.

Ixpanpajul  has an area of 9 km2, which is equivalent to 450 hectares. It has more than 200 species of trees, 150 species of birds and around 40 species of mammals.

Two major activities are:

  • Skyway - While walking through the spectacular suspension bridges and the twisting paths, full of exuberant vegetation, you will have the opportunity of directly contact nature. During the journey, you will be able to see the different strata of the tropical forest, to conclude at the top of the Miramás hill, where you can look the majesty of the forest and the beauty of Petén Itzá lake.
  • Tarzan Tour - Also known as Canopy This is really daring; it means to make the decision of flying in the middle of the trees, with cables and to observe the nature just as the birds see it, in a funny and safe way. Nine daring platforms and a crossed cables system, placed in the highest and leafy trees will make this adventure unforgettable, flying as Tarzan did.
