HISTORY:
To tell the story of the construction of Casa Medina is, in a way, to go into an episode of the history of Bogotá when the joint efforts of individuals, as well as official institutions, where able to save and protect a place that is now considered a Monument of Cultural Interest. In 1946, Mr. Santiago Medina Mejía, who was born in Medellín in 1902 and who studied Fine Arts and Architecture in Paris, completed the construction of a building that astounded the residents of Bogotá at the time because of the originality of its design.

The building is located at Carrera Séptima between 69a and 70th streets, and for its construction, the architect salvaged pieces of two colonial convents that had recently been demolished. These historic objects, including stone columns and original floors, were incorporated into the design of the building along with other unique elements such as the hand-carved wooden doors the hotel is proud to maintain.

Mr. Medina himself oversaw the extraordinary craftsmanship and the creation of intricate designs in wrought iron and the final result was an eclectic construction where different influences came together to create an exceptional and imposing space. Since April 1988, after a careful restoration, this legendary building has housed the exclusive Hotel Casa Medina, a place where quality and service prevail.
