ABOUT BIRDWATCHING & NOMADS OF THE SEAS - in their own words:
Skillful and trained guides, highly knowledgeable in local bird population and armed with the latest technology available, spearhead our exclusive, distinctive ornithological activities. The beauty and pristine nature of Patagonian fiords and channels, dressed in exuberant evergreen temperate rainforests, is generous to provide accessible and rewarding observation of a diverse native avifauna.
Approximately 450 different bird species can be found in Chile, an interesting number of which are mostly endemic to the region. Unlike many tropical areas, popular for their great variety of birds yet not always easily accessible, Nomads of the Seas' ample, varied and breathtaking area offers full amenities for the identification, observation and safe, easy documentation of its amazing birdlife.
Unique and interesting sea birds such as different species of albatross, petrel, fulmar, cormorants as well as two species of penguins - Humboldt and Magellan -can be frequently seen throughout our journey.
In estuary and wetlands one can frequently spot herons and egrets together with Black-faced Ibis. These share the area with numerous species of duck: whistling, wigeon, pintail, teal, steamer and pochard, spectacular species of geese, a few species of swans and the majestic Ringed Kingfisher.
Deep within the leafy southern rainforest and in a state of perfect symbiosis with its ancient woodlands, live precious species of woodpeckers, parakeets and the typical Chilean Pigeon, as well as a variety of white-throated tree-runners and Thorn Tailed Rayaditos.
The Chucao's powerful song will accompany us through our trip. This symphony of forest birds is complimented by tapaculos or New World Subascines. There are also hawks, owls and various other birds of prey. In fact, our emblematic Condor, buzzard of the New World, inhabits high-altitude regions.
Trained and qualified bird-watching guides familiar with the area, plus a modern and high-tech infrastructure enable us to provide you with a view of rare birds, sights that few have experienced during their long ornithological pilgrimage. Chilean Patagonia's beautiful and pristine fjords and channels are ensconced in an exuberant temperate evergreen rainforest, providing assessable bird-watching of endemic birdlife that not many have seen before.
